You’re walking along the ocean shore in Truro, Massachusetts, and Cape Cod. You feel all alone in the world right now.
You went for a walk, to kind of gather yourself, but still, you feel alone.
The area in Truro is distant from the parking lots, so very few people ever venture out that far.
So you see no sun bathers. All you see are a few seagulls.
But basically you’re alone. Or are you?
You can hear the waves crashing along the shore, the sound of the rolling stones and shells as they crash upon themselves, as each title wave crushes the stones together.
But you are walking, and you’re walking alone and the sun is at your back. You can feel the warm upon your neck and your legs.
In the distance there’s a motorboat, but he’s so far off you can’t see the captain. So you feel like you’re all alone, and yet, something, someone or something, it feels like, is with you.
You feel like you’re being watched, so you look around, and what do you notice? That you finally see a brown head submerged like a submarine periscope.
Two big, brown eyes are staring right at you.
So now you know, you were being watched along your entire walk on the beach, by this beautiful, big, brown seal. So the whole time you were walking, when you thought you were alone, you really weren’t.
Thank you curious, brown seal.
