Get it Done

Ever notice that sometimes it’s just hard to get it done? Sometimes it’s hard to get a job, or an event, or an activity you had planned to do, and just do it.

Sometimes, that thing called procrastination bites you in the ass, and you can’t move forward. And no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you think about it, it eludes you.

Now you’re a smart person, you’re capable, you get a lot of things done all day. But sometimes the one event, one activity, one task just can’t get done. So how do you get it done? Here’s a little trick that might work.

Take out a piece of paper and write down the activity you need to get done. Write it on three pieces of paper. Now, take out your checkbook, and write a check to a person who you’re hiring to do that activity. So let’s say the activity is…well, you make it up, it’s your activity. Write three checks to three people that you’ve hired to take that activity, and break it into thirds, and each person’s being paid to do a third of that task, so when they’re done, it’s finished. It’s like hiring a carpenter or hiring a plumber. Write the check, put an envelope, and that’s it. Now the task will be done because you’re not doing it, someone else is. Now you’re going to take over those three jobs. You’re the plumber, you’re the carpenter, and you’re going to do the task. But you’re really not doing it, they are. And you’ve paid for it, so you want to get your money’s worth.

Next thing you know that task will be done.
