Improve your Memory

00:00

I read an article recently that said for the Baby Boomer generation, one out of eight will end up with Alzheimer’s.

Now, I don’t know if that’s going to happen, but I do know that I know a few friends whose parents have Alzheimer’s, which means they have no memory of certain events, and it’s greatly affected their life.

So how can we work on improving our memory, that’s easy and simple, and doesn’t take any extra effort from you?

I call it the Grocery Shopping List. Next time you go grocery shopping, soon as you get home, write down the items you bought. See if you can remember what they are, then compare it to the list, and see what you were right, and what you missed. Put it aside, and four hours later, or later in the day, do it again, and see. Perhaps the first time you were right with 80 percent of the items, you might have only been right with 50 percent. You’d be surprised with how many items you do not remember. Then try it the next day. If you do this every time you go grocery shopping, you will recreate the synapses in your brain, and the brain will start to create memory patterns, new synapses are being formed. And you can improve your memory.

And as we all age, each of us have days when we say we can’t remember what we had for breakfast this morning, or I can’t remember what I did last Tuesday. Ask yourself: do you remember what you had for breakfast two days ago? That’s another thing you can write down – what you had for breakfast. Little things like this only take a minute, but they can improve your memory and improve your life.

Have fun improving your memory.
